Red Velvet Cupcakes

Red Velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake crumbs sprinkled on top

Our Red Velvet Cupcake recipe is a perfect dessert to make for a special occasion such as Valentine’s Day… (We don’t wait for a special occasion though, we make these when we want and you can too by following our simple recipe!)

Ingredients:

  • 150g softened butter
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 1tbsp Mortimer Chocolate White Couverture Powder
  • 1tbsp Mortimer Chocolate Natural Cacao Powder
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 165g self raising flour
  • 85ml plain, natural yoghurt
  • 1 tsp red food colouring
  • 2 eggs

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180ÂșC
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar
  3. Beat in the eggs
  4. In a jug or bowl, beat together the yoghurt and food colouring
  5. Sift in the flour, Cacao Powder, White Couverture Powder, bicarbonate of soda
  6. Add the yoghurt and food colouring
  7. Combine all the ingredients together until smooth
  8. Spoon the mixture into muffin cases and bake in the oven for 20 minutes
  9. Allow to cool before icing with a cream cheese frosting
